How to Go to Sleep in 60 Seconds...😴

Have you ever had one of those nights, where it seems you just can’t get comfortable, or calm enough to sleep properly? You toss and turn, and you feel more and more annoyed that you can’t drift off?

…Or it could be stress, anxiety or even adrenaline keeping you up?

Well a ‘bedtime expert’, has claimed to have invented a completely foolproof method of drifting off to sleep.

His name is Dr. Andrew Weil. He says he’s discovered a “natural tranquiliser for the nervous system.” It works pretty simply too, just by focusing on your breathing and counting.

It’s pretty simple how it works, DO THIS:

Step 1) Breathe in a deep breath, through your nose quietly for 4 seconds

Step 2) Hold the breath for 7 seconds.

Step 3) Slowly release the breath from your mouth while making a ‘Whoosh’ sound, so that your cheeks puff out, do this for 8 seconds.

Step 4) Repeat this so you do it for 4 times total. Then once you’ve mastered it, you can do it twice per day, after 8 weeks.

This technique is called the 4-7-8 breathing technique. It works by giving your mind a focal point to focus on, while moving attention away from frustration and other emotions.

It’s pretty simple, requires almost no time, equipment and can be done anywhere.

It’s originated from the Indian practice of ‘Pranayama’ translating to “regulation of breath”. This method works by allowing more oxygen into the lungs, which has a relaxing effect on the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting feeling of rest, relaxation and calmness.

Do this just before bed, during times of stress like exams, as the nervous system becomes too overstimulated, causing a lack of sleep.

You can print off this email and keep it by your bedside to remind you, or, you can make a summarised note of the technique and keep that by your bedside.

Give it a shot and see what you think! Here's a video tutorial from the Man himself:
